Arithmetic Mean

Pronunciation: /æ.rɪθˈmɛ.tɪk min/ Explain

The arithmetic mean of a set of numbers is the sum of the numbers divided by how many numbers there are in the set.[2] This is the most commonly used average. The formula for the arithmetic mean is

The arithmetic mean of set x equals the sum of the elements of x divided by the number of elements of x.
where a1,a2,a3,... are the numbers in the set and n is the number of numbers in the set.

For example, the arithmetic mean of {3,7,8,12} is (3+7+8+12)/4 = 30/4 = 7.5.
