Linear

Pronunciation: /ˈlɪn.i.ər/ Explain

Linear means having to do with a line. For example, a linear equation is an equation that makes a line when graphed.

Linear Objects

Object	Description
Linear equation	An equation that, when graphed, makes a line.
	An equation that can be written in the form y = mx + b, or x = a.
	For linear systems with more than two variables, an equation that can be written in the form y = a0 + a1x1 + a2x2 + a3x3 + … + anxn
Linear function	A function where all the terms are first degree.
	A function for which it is true that 1) f(x) + f(y) = f(x + y), and 2) f(αx) = αf(x).
Linear system	A set of linear equations that, when taken together are either all true or all false.
Linear algebra	The study of linear systems.
Linear regression	Fitting a linear equation to a data set.
