Geometric Representation

Pronunciation: /ˌdʒi.əˈmɛt.rɪk ˌrɛp.rɪ.zɛnˈteɪ.ʃən/ Explain

A geometric representation is a representation that uses geometry to illustrate or clarify a mathematical truth.

2 rows and 3 columns of dots = 3 rows by two columns of dots
Figure 1: 2 rows and 3 columns of dots is the same number of dots as 3 rows by two columns of dots

A geometric representation allows us to visualize mathematical properties. This visualization makes it easier to understand and remember the property. One geometric representation you may be familiar with is the representation of multiplication using rows and columns of dots. In figure 1, the commutative property of multiplication is represented with 2 · 3 = 3 · 2.
